New York, 8thJuly 2015, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf ahead of the Liberia delegation has arrived in New York to participate in the International Ebola Recovery Conference organized under the auspices of the United Nations in collaboration with the three affected Mano River countries, Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone. The Conference is also being facilitated by the African Development Bank, the African Union as well as the European and the World Bank.
According to a dispatch from the Permanent Mission of Liberia to the United Nations, the purpose of the Conference is to draw the International attention specifically on the need for targeted investments for the three countries to support recovery priorities over a 24 month time frame in order to enable the countries make transition to recovery.
The dispatch says , the Conference will also offer an opportunity for the Governments of the three affected countries as well as the MRU, to share detailed country and regional EVD strategies in addressing their individual requirements for getting to zero, staying at zero as well as their recovery plans and resource needs.
President Sirleaf will address the High-Level Meeting to be presided by the UN secretary-General. Several high profile personalities will also be in attendance including the Ministers of the UN Member States, High level representatives of the African Union, President of the UN General Assembly, Chair of the UN Peacebuilding Commission, UNDP Administrator, Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Ebola, civil society organization among others.
President Sirleaf is accompanied by several Government Officials including . Representative Munah Pelham – Youngblood , Hon. Augustine k. Ngafuan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Amara Konneh, Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Hon Lewis G Brown II, Minister of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism, Hon. Eugene Lenn Nagbe, Minister of Youths and Sports, Hon Tolbert Nyenswah head of Liberia’s Incident Management System.
