MR. GEORGE S.W. PATTEN, SR

Mr. George S.W. Patten, SR. (Minister Counselor for Political Affairs).

Expert on the 4th (Special Political and Decolonization) Committee of the UN General Assembly, and has responsibility to cover the Security Council, the African Union Observer Mission to the UN, and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).  Mr. Patten is the Focal Point for the Liberia Country-Specific Configuration on the agenda of the Peace building Commission (PBC), and serves as back-up to the Ambassador in the work of the Commission. He is also the Focal Point for the New Deal for engagement in fragile countries. He attends to some legal matters. Mr. Patten holds a Master of Arts (MA) Degree in International Relations from the University of Liberia. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Degree from the St. Mary’s University College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and a Bachelor (BBA) Degree in Business Administration from the University of Liberia.  He holds other diplomas and certificates in diplomacy, conflict prevention and peace building, and public international law.

Mr. Patten is a career diplomat. He has served both at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in the Liberian Foreign Service in the following capacities:

  • Counselor, Embassy of Liberia to Ethiopia, with accreditations to Kenya and Uganda.
  • Senior Desk Officer, Bureau of African & Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • Desk Officer, Bureau of African & Asian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • First Secretary & Consul, Embassy of Liberia to Libya, also accredited to Tunisia.
  • First Secretary & Consul, Embassy of Liberia to The Gambia, with multiple accreditation to Senegal, and Guinea Bissau.
  • Deputy Chief of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Research Assistant, Bureau of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Mr. Patten has also worked as an instructor of economics, and international relations.
